Dr. Derek Chang, DDS – Corpus Christi Family Dentist
Dr. Chang was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. He attended Windsor Park Elementary and Baker Middle School and graduated from Mary Carroll High School in 2003.
From there, he went on to Texas A&M College Station, where he met his beautiful wife while studying for his bachelor’s degree in Biology. Dr. Chang is a 2011 graduate of Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, TX, where he was involved in multiple organizations and held several officer positions.
He was also named to the Baylor College of Dentistry Dean’s Honor List in 2011.
After completing dental school, Dr. D returned to Corpus Christi to serve the community where he grew up.
Dr. Chang prides himself on treating patients with respect and care. He offers a comprehensive range of dental services, including preventive, restorative, and cosmetic treatments, to meet your unique oral health needs.
Dr. Chang places great emphasis on educating his patients about oral health and disease prevention, including encouraging patients to maintain healthy brushing habits and to get routine oral screenings for oral cancer, gum disease and tooth decay.
Dr. Chang actively participates in the local American Dental Association (ADA), the Academy of General Dentistry, and the Corpus Christi Dental Study Club. Through this involvement, he stays current with the latest advances in dentistry and continually sharpens his clinical skills to benefit his patients.
In 2017, Dr. Chang was inducted as a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry, receiving the FAGD designation. Fewer than 10% of dentists nationwide hold this designation, which signifies recognition as a leader by colleagues and exemplifies the importance of quality continuing dental education.
Requirements to apply for this designation include 500 continuing education hours, passing a written test, and membership for three consecutive years.
In recent years, Dr. Chang completed his dental implant fellowship through the iHDS (Institute of Houston Dental Synergy). After finishing the rigorous training and certification process, he began offering dental implant treatments to serve his patients and expand dental services.
He emphasizes compassion and dedication to serving his patients. As an office, we commit to upholding our practice philosophy of always putting the patient first.
Dr. Chang is also active in the community through various organizations. He is a graduate of the Leadership Corpus Christi program, which had 42 graduates. He is a 2012 recipient of the Corpus Christi 40 Under 40 award. He served on the organization’s steering committee from 2015 to 2017. He is currently a Buc Days commissioner.
